2015 Ford Transit Connect Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came from the Live Oak Park Area in Fallbrook on a Tuesday in July. She had just left the store, loaded groceries into the back seat, and the remote head key quit cold. No lock, no unlock, nothing. The car was right there, she could see it, and the frozen food had a clock on it.
She called the dealer first. Tomorrow afternoon was the earliest they could get her in. That's not an answer when ice cream is involved.
I was about 20 minutes out. Got there, got the door open mechanically using the key blade, and she was already watching the bags like she could will them colder.
I plugged into the OBD port and pulled up the key system. Her original remote head key -- the factory fob with the blade built in -- had a CR2032 that was reading nearly flat. But the fob housing had also taken some damage, probably from being dropped, and the internal contact for the blade-side transponder was bent just enough to cause intermittent reads. That's a two-part failure and it's easy to miss if you only test the buttons.
New remote head key, programmed on site, fresh CR2032 installed before I handed it over. Tested the lock, unlock, and the other two buttons. Tested the ignition. Walked the key around the car the way I always do before I close the job.
She was driving before the frozen stuff was a loss. The dealer comparison came up on its own -- she mentioned what they quoted over the phone. I just told her to put that number away, she wasn't going to need it.
