2011 Hyundai Sonata Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He got off work, walked to his car at the park and ride in Downtown Fallbrook, and nothing happened. Pressed the fob, no response. Tried the door handle, locked. Held the fob up against the start button area, still nothing. The smart key battery had died while the car sat all day, and he hadn't found the backup start pocket yet.
The dealer's earliest opening was Thursday. It was Monday. A tow out of the lot wasn't going to be cheap, and he still would have ended up waiting days before anyone touched it. He searched on his phone and called me.
I was in the lot within 35 minutes. Got the door open, connected my diagnostic equipment, and pulled up the vehicle security system. His fob was still registered to the car. What had happened was the battery had dropped low enough mid-day that the system logged a communication fault, and the backup start procedure wasn't clearing it on its own. CR2032 swap, fault reset through the OBD port, and the system came back clean. I walked every button and both doors before I let him leave. Threw a spare battery in the console so he wouldn't be back here in six months.
He drove home that same evening. His Sonata never left the space he pulled into that morning. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a three-day wait, and a bill that made none of that feel worth it.
