2003 Land Rover Discovery
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2003 Land Rover Discovery Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Scripps Ranch, just off Scripps Ranch Boulevard, on a Tuesday afternoon. He had a 2003 Land Rover Discovery sitting in his driveway and zero working keys. Not a weak fob, not a dead battery. No keys at all - lost somewhere in a move, he figured.

He had already called the Land Rover dealer. They told him the car needed to come in on a flatbed, and he should expect to wait the better part of a week. The number they quoted him made him pause long enough to go looking for another option.

I pulled up with the equipment I needed. The Discovery was sitting right there in the driveway, which made the whole job cleaner. I cut a new key blade to the vehicle, then connected to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. On a 2003 Discovery, that process wipes the old key memory and registers the new transponder from scratch. The car has to forget everything it knew first, which takes a few minutes of the tool doing its thing while you just wait.

Once the immobilizer accepted the new key, I synced the remote functions and ran through both buttons to confirm the locks were responding. Then a couple of start cycles to make sure it was clean.

He watched the whole thing from his front step with a coffee. Thirty-five minutes, start to finish, car in his driveway. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted, and nobody towed anything anywhere.
