2021 Land Rover Discovery Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Shadowridge homeowner called me about a 2021 Land Rover Discovery that would not acknowledge the fob at the driver's door handle. She had already swapped the fob battery herself, which was the right call. That still did not fix it.
She could unlock with the app and get in, but the passive touch unlock at the driver's handle was dead. The passenger handle worked fine. The liftgate detected her just like normal. The start button inside the cabin saw the fob with no complaints.
I got to her driveway and spent the first few minutes just walking the car. Driver handle, dead. Passenger, alive. Rear liftgate, alive. That pattern told me what I needed to know before I plugged anything in. It was not the fob, and it was not the vehicle security system throwing a fit. It was isolated to one antenna zone.
I pulled the diagnostic gear out of my van anyway, because you confirm before you conclude. The body control module had a stored fault pointed at that exact door antenna circuit. Connector at the antenna had worked itself loose, probably from door cycles and vibration over time. Reseated it, cleared the code, walked the handle again. Back to normal.
She had already gotten a dealer quote to replace the entire passive entry module, which would have meant ordering parts and waiting. What she actually needed was twenty minutes and someone who mapped the problem correctly from the start.
The Discovery is a serious vehicle. The key system matches that. But not every passive entry problem is a major repair.
