2015 Lexus NX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A customer in Kearny Mesa called on a Tuesday afternoon. She'd bought her 2015 Lexus NX used a couple years back - one fob, always meant to get a spare, never did.
The fob housing had been cracked along the seam for a while. She kept using it anyway. Then the emergency blade snapped off inside the door lock cylinder when she tried to use it manually, and that was that. Broken housing in one hand, nothing else to show for it.
Zero working keys. Car sitting in the parking lot of her condo complex.
When I got there I checked the fob housing first. The shell was cracked and the blade was gone, but the transponder chip and board inside were intact. That's the part that actually matters for programming. I extracted the blade fragment from the lock cylinder, decoded the lock mechanically, and cut two new blades on site. Then I transferred the board into a new fob shell rather than doing a full all-keys-lost reset, which saved time because the chip data was still readable and good.
Both fobs programmed and tested on the lot. Touch unlock on both front handles, all four buttons, start button, everything. About 45 minutes start to finish.
She asked what the dealer would have charged. I told her honestly: way more, and they would have told her to tow it in first.
