A guy in Carlton Hills, right here in Santee, bought a used 2024 Lexus NX from a private seller. Clean car, good deal, one key. The seller mentioned in passing that he should just "grab a spare from the dealer." He assumed that meant a couple hundred bucks and an afternoon.

I connected through the OBD port, brought up the immobilizer registration menu, added the new fob to the vehicle's key memory without touching or erasing the original, and confirmed both fobs started the car before I packed up. The blade got cut on my machine to match his locks. Total time on site was right around 45 minutes.
He drove away with two working keys. The dealer comparison came up once, briefly, and then he stopped talking about it because the math was obvious.
That spare key is also insurance. If he ever loses one fob down the road, the next job is an add-a-key instead of an all-keys-lost reset. On a Lexus this new, that is not a small difference.
