2018 Lexus NX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Santee Lakes area, I got a call from a guy who had driven to a trailhead, turned off his 2018 Lexus NX, and came back to a vehicle that wouldn't acknowledge his fob at all. No touch unlock on the door handles, no response from the start button, nothing. He was standing in a parking lot wondering if he needed a tow.
He told me he had replaced the fob battery a few weeks before. First thing I asked him to do was check if the physical insert key hidden in the fob would at least get him inside the door manually, which it did. That told me the issue was electronic, not mechanical.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. The CR1632 he had put in was a no-name off-brand cell, and it was reading low voltage even though it was relatively new. Some of the cheap replacements ship with partial charge or drain faster in heat. Dropped in a quality CR1632, seated it properly, and the fob lit back up immediately. Touch unlock on both front handles came back. Start button recognized the fob from normal range.
No programming needed. No module work. Just a better battery seated correctly.
He mentioned the dealer had already quoted him for a full fob replacement when he called them earlier that week about the intermittent detection issues. He saved a good chunk by not going that route first.
