More. Notably more. When you have a working key, adding a spare is a quick registration job. When every key is gone, the smart key system has to be fully reset before anything new can be enrolled. That reset procedure has a built-in timed sequence, it takes longer, and it requires a deeper level of access through the diagnostic port.

The practical advice is always the same: if you have one working key for your NX right now, get a spare made before something happens to that last fob. It will cost you less today than an all-keys-lost job costs you later.

Wipe down the handle area and retest. If it stays broken on just that one door, you're looking at a door-side diagnosis, not a key replacement.

Can I use my 2017 NX fob to start the car if the battery is completely dead in the fob?

Yes, and this is worth knowing before you're stuck. Every NX smart fob has a small mechanical key stored inside it. If the fob battery dies completely and the car won't respond to the push-button start, you pull the insert key out to physically unlock the door.

Once inside, there's a backup method built into the NX to start the car using the fob body itself even with a dead battery. Hold the fob directly against the start button and press. The car's system can read a passive signal from the fob at close range. It doesn't always work through a pocket or a bag, but directly on the button it typically does.

If none of that works, the fob battery is just the first thing to rule out. A fresh CR1632 seated properly against both contacts solves a lot of these calls before they become a full replacement job.
