2023 Lexus NX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: The Lexus dealer told me I have to tow my NX in for a key replacement. Is that true?

It's true that dealers require the vehicle on their lot. It is not true that a tow is your only option. A mobile locksmith with the right equipment can handle 2023 NX key replacement at the vehicle's location. Programming goes through the OBD port, so the car doesn't need to move. Dealers tell you to tow it in because that's their process - their tools are at their shop. Our tools come to you.

Q: What do I need to show to prove I own the 2023 NX before you'll make a key?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership - your registration or title works. We verify the VIN from the dash plate or the door jamb sticker to confirm everything matches before we touch anything. That's the same baseline a dealer uses. The difference is we do it on site in a few minutes rather than running you through a service desk process.

Q: My 2023 NX shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob is right there. What's going on?

Few things can cause that. Start with the CR2032 in the fob - a low battery is the most common trigger for that warning even when the fob is physically present. If the cell is weak, the fob's signal doesn't always register reliably with the antennas in the vehicle. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the next step is to hold the fob directly against the start button when you press it.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2023 NX. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2023 NX has no owner-accessible self-programming sequence for smart fobs. There is no button combination, no ignition cycle trick, nothing like that. Fob registration on this vehicle requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port. If you already bought one online, it's not a wasted purchase - the fob itself can still be used once it's properly programmed by someone with the right tools.

2023 Lexus NX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked off Beyer Blvd Corridor on a Tuesday afternoon when a guy flagged me down - not a customer yet, just someone who recognized the van. He had a 2023 Lexus NX and had been quoted a number at the dealer for a spare smart key that stopped him cold. He said he was going to wait until it broke.

I told him waiting until you have zero working keys on one of these is a completely different situation than adding a spare while you still have a working fob. Different process, more time, more involved. He hadn't thought about it that way.

We did the job right there. I decoded the door lock mechanically to get the correct cut profile for the emergency insert key, then cut the blade to match. From there, the new fob went through programming via the diagnostic port. The vehicle's security system enrolled the new fob and confirmed it. Tested the push-button start, tested the door handles, walked every button. Clean.

He paid a fraction of the dealer quote and didn't move his car once. I think what got him was realizing the dealer would have had him schedule an appointment, drop the car off, and wait. He was back inside his building in under an hour with two working keys instead of one.

Lexus NX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm locked out with no spare fob. Can you come to me in San Ysidro?▼

Yes, that's exactly what we do. Call us and we come to you on Beyer Blvd Corridor or anywhere else in San Ysidro - parking lot, apartment complex, street parking, wherever the NX is sitting. One thing to know about the 2023 NX specifically: there's no traditional ignition cylinder, so the emergency entry point when you're locked out is a mechanical door lock cylinder hidden under the driver's door handle cover.
