2002 Lexus SC Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy in Kearny Mesa, San Diego. He had a 2002 Lexus SC and one working key. He wanted a spare made before the original gave out, which is honestly the smartest reason to call a locksmith. Most people wait until they're stranded.
I pulled up to the parking lot where he'd left the car. The SC is a low two-door coupe, the kind you have to crouch to get into, and the OBD port is tucked up under the dash in a way that reminds you this car predates the era of easy access panels. I got connected, read what I needed from the immobilizer, and worked through the key registration process on site.
He stood off to the side, not really watching. Then I walked the lot. Both keys starting the car, remote lock and unlock from about thirty feet out, trunk release. Every button on both fobs. He came over when I asked him to verify the trunk popped, and that's when it clicked for him that this was a real test, not theater.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days because the part would need to be ordered. I didn't say much about that. The job was done, both keys worked, and he drove off the same afternoon.
