2005 Lexus SC Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy out in Fanita Ranch called me on a Sunday night. His 2005 Lexus SC had been sitting for a few weeks while he was traveling, and when he came back the remote head key would not unlock the doors or trigger anything.

The blade still turned in the ignition, the car ran fine, but the remote side was completely dead. He had already been to a parts store and picked up what he thought was the right battery. It was not. He had a CR2025 sitting in there, which is close in diameter but too thick and too high a milliamp-hour rating for that fob. It was making contact just barely, which was enough to let the key start the car but not enough to power the remote circuitry reliably.

I pulled up to his driveway, popped the fob, swapped in the correct CR1616, and seated the cover properly. Buttons came back immediately. I walked every function with him while he watched, lock, unlock, and the trunk release, all three buttons confirmed working.

Then I checked the key blade for wear since the car had been sitting and he mentioned the ignition had been feeling a little stiff. Blade looked fine. Not every call turns into a big job, and that is the point. He did not need a new key, he did not need a dealer visit, and he definitely did not need a tow. Just the right cell and someone who actually knew which one to bring.
