If the warning keeps coming up after a fresh battery, try holding the fob directly against the start button area while pressing the brake pedal. That puts the transponder chip in close range for a direct read and can get you started when the RF signal is weak.

Still nothing? At that point you're looking at a few possibilities: the fob itself may be damaged internally, the immobilizer module may not be recognizing the key, or there's a communication issue between the RF receiver and the rest of the security system. I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it to my 2018 Ram 1500?

Maybe, but verify the FCC ID on that fob matches the factory FCC ID printed on your original before you do anything else. This is the single most common problem I see with online fob purchases on these trucks. People find something that looks right and fits the photos, but the RF spec or the transponder configuration doesn't match this application. A fob like that can sometimes pass initial programming and still fail within days.

If the FCC ID matches and the part is a legitimate OEM or OEM-equivalent unit, professional programming equipment gets it added to your truck. It's not a DIY sequence on this vehicle -- you need the right tools at the diagnostic port to pair the new fob and write it to the immobilizer. But bring the fob, bring the truck, and we can usually have it done on site.
