2022 Ram 1500
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2022 Ram 1500 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A security guard working a gate post at an industrial park in Buena Creek called me around 11:30 at night. His 2022 Ram 1500 was sitting in the lot, push-button start, one key, dead fob. He'd already looked up tow companies and was doing the math on dealer hours in the morning.

I told him to stay put.

When I got there, he was standing outside the truck in the dark, still clicking the fob out of habit. I've seen that a hundred times. The fob was sending nothing. His phone screen was the brightest thing in the lot.

I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Ram smart key system. On push-button trucks like this, you can't just add a key the way you could on an older keyed ignition. The vehicle security system needs to be accessed through the port, existing key data gets cleared, and the new fob gets enrolled. The whole process has a timed sequence built in, so you sit and wait through parts of it whether you want to or not.

New fob programmed, mechanical insert cut to the truck, every button tested, door handles walking correctly. He was driving before midnight.

He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him once before for a spare key. It was a lot. What he paid me was a fraction of that, and he didn't need a tow or a morning appointment.

I do all-keys-lost on the 2022 Ram 1500 on-site regularly. There are a small number of situations where my tools won't cover a specific configuration and I'll tell you that upfront before I come out. But for the vast majority of these trucks on the road, this is a parking lot job.
