A driver at a highway pullout near Downtown Ramona had his key snap in the ignition of his 2010 Scion TC. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, half between his fingers. Another locksmith quoted him for a full ignition replacement over the phone. New cylinder, new keys, over $350.
I used my TOY43 Lishi to extract the broken fragment. It fits the 2-track keyway and works around a stuck blade piece to slide it out without scratching the wafer surfaces. I decoded the lock from the readings, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the transponder through OBD. His key, FCC ID MOZB41TG, was a 3-button remote head. The new blade turned the ignition on the first try.
No drilling, no cylinder swap. Total was $185. The other locksmith's destructive approach would have been $395 or more with a full cylinder replacement. His original lock works with the new key exactly as it did before the blade snapped.
