1999 Toyota Solara Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy visiting his in-laws over in Bonsall reached out on a Saturday afternoon. He had a 1999 Solara and needed a spare key made. Not an emergency, just a practical errand he had been putting off. He asked upfront whether an aftermarket key would hold up as a daily driver versus going through the dealer for an OEM unit.
It is a fair question and I do not dodge it. The factory fob carries the Toyota logo on the housing and a higher price tag. A quality aftermarket blank uses the same blade profile, the same button count, the same basic circuit layout. When I source blanks, I test them across batches before they go in the van. The ones that flex too much, have mushy buttons, or show inconsistent chip behavior get sent back. My reputation rides on the work I hand back to someone.
I met him in the driveway, cut the blade to his existing lock, and programmed the chip and the remote. He held both keys and asked which one was the new one. I pointed to it. He clicked the lock button, shrugged, and said he could not tell the difference.
That is the goal. Not the Toyota logo on the back. The key working every time you need it, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him.
