2000 Toyota Solara
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2000 Toyota Solara Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Dictionary Hill in Spring Valley when the call came in. Guy had a 2000 Solara, and his fob had been acting up for weeks. He had already swapped the CR2032 himself, which was the right first move, but the range was still bad and the trunk release button had stopped working entirely.

When I got there, the key and fob were both original. Twenty-four years old. He had no idea there were two separate systems at work. He thought the key and the remote were basically the same thing and that one failing meant the other was next.

I walked him through it while I worked. The transponder in the ignition key was fine. That system was doing its job every time he started the car. The problem was isolated to the remote fob. I tested the existing fob, confirmed the trunk button was dead and range was marginal, and then programmed a replacement fob to the vehicle.

The new fob paired to the car, all three buttons tested clean, range was back to normal across the parking lot. He seemed surprised it took less than a half hour. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait and parts lead time just to look at it.

I did not bring up the dealer comparison. He did.
