2006 Toyota Solara Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman over in the Fairbanks Ranch section of Rancho Santa Fe. Her 2006 Solara had been sitting while she was traveling, and when she got back the spare key she'd left with a neighbor had gone missing. She only ever had one working key to begin with.

She'd already called the Toyota dealer. They told her to have it towed in, quoted her a wait of a few days, and the total was going to be a lot. She found me instead.

I pulled up to her place off the main road through Fairbanks Ranch, popped the trunk on my van, and got to work. The Solara uses an ignition-cylinder transponder setup, so this is a cut-and-program job done right at the car. I cut a replacement blade to her vehicle, then used my programmer through the OBD port to enroll the new key's transponder chip into the immobilizer. Turned the key, engine came up, no warning lights, no stall.

She mentioned she'd heard the dealer might have to pull the immobilizer module to do an all-keys-lost situation. That's not always the story when you have the right equipment in the field. Took me under an hour, done in her driveway. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and she didn't lose her car for two days.
