His fob was the five button KR580399900 style with remote start. CR2032 inside. He had read online that some 2019 RDX models use a different FCC ID, KR5T21, and he did not want to order the wrong one and get stuck with a paperweight. He called me instead.
I verified the part number off his existing transmitter and confirmed the system. On these third gen RDX models, the immobilizer is a Philips ID47 type chip built into the smart key board. Programming is all through the OBD with Acura specific software. No on board add a key trick.
While I cut the emergency insert, I explained why the hardware store cannot clone this. The insert might look simple, but the smart portion has to be registered to the immobilizer and the old lost keys can be erased at the same time.
Thirty five minutes later we tested lock, unlock, tailgate, remote start, and push button start. All green. He kept his afternoon in Silver Strand neighborhood and skipped the whole dealer appointment routine.
