2017 Acura RDX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday afternoon in Hollywood Beach, the call came in around two o'clock. Guy had spent the morning at the beach, came back to his 2017 Acura RDX, and the car just sat there. No response from the fob. Push the start button and the dash came back with a key-not-detected warning. He had already dug through his beach bag twice.
He figured the battery died. He was not wrong, but it was worse than that. Somewhere between the water and the parking spot, the fob had taken enough abuse that the battery contact was bent just enough to break connection. The CR2032 tested fine on its own. The fob was the problem.
I popped it open on the hood of the car. He watched the whole thing. The contact had a small but clean bend, enough to lose contact under any flex. I straightened it, reseated the battery, and closed it back up. Tested range, tested both door handles, ran through all five buttons.
Everything came back.
He did not need a new fob. He did not need a dealer appointment or a tow. He needed someone who would open the fob instead of just replace it. That is usually where the story ends, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted just to look at it.
