Saturday afternoon in Oxnard Shores, a guy flagged me down by phone while I was already finishing a job nearby. 2017 Acura RDX. Push to start. Every key gone.
He had already torn his beach bag apart twice and retraced his steps through the sand. The car sat there, locked, dash reading "KEY NOT DETECTED" every time he leaned on the button through the window gap. Not dead. Just waiting for a fob that no longer existed.
On this generation RDX, the immobilizer ties into the keyless access control unit, module 38320-TX4 series. When every registered key is missing, there is no pedal trick, no button combo. I have to go through the OBD-II port, run an all-keys-lost reset on the immobilizer, wipe the old key IDs, and write new ones. The system runs a timed security countdown during that process, so stable 12-volt supply matters. I clamp a battery maintainer on before I start.
I backed up the immobilizer data, cleared the old fob registrations, then paired the new KR580399900 with its ID47 transponder. Cut the emergency mechanical insert for the driver door. Tested proximity unlock on both front handles, the trunk release, and push-button start.
The dash lit green and the engine caught on the first press. He just stood there for a second, nodded, and said he could finally breathe again.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes, right there in the parking area. No tow truck, no dealer appointment three days out.
