A guy over in the College Estates area of Oxnard called because his 2010 RDX was doing the half-working thing. Engine started fine most mornings, but the remote would only lock and unlock when he was standing right next to the door. Past about four feet, nothing.
He had the key in his hand when I pulled up. FCC ID N5F0602A1A on the back, which told me exactly what I was working with. I opened the flip key shell on his hood and found the CR1616 barely making contact. The battery clips had a slight outward bend, like someone had pried the case apart with a flathead instead of sliding the release. Classic.
Swapped the CR1616, straightened the clips, and the LED on the remote lit up strong again. Then I connected to the DLC port with my diagnostic tool to check immobilizer status. The system showed the transponder was reading correctly, no DTC stored, no registration issue. On these first-gen RDX models the immobilizer setup runs through the same Honda HDS-style interface, and there is no owner-level ignition cycle trick to re-pair a key. If it needs programming, it needs a tool.
I walked the remote through lock, unlock, and panic from about 30 feet out, then ran three clean start cycles. Everything held.
He had already called the Acura dealer and got quoted a wait of several days just to get an appointment. He was back at his desk the same hour I showed up.
