Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 Acura RDX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was just after dark in Hollywood by the Sea when my phone rang.

Nurse. Double shift. 2018 Acura RDX. No keys at all.

She was sitting in a grocery store parking lot a few blocks from the water, staring at a push-button start that was not going anywhere without a paired fob. Her only smart key had slipped out of her scrubs somewhere between patients and the checkout line. Gone.

First thing I asked for was the VIN. She did not know what that meant at first, so I walked her through it. Driver side, base of the windshield, seventeen characters. Once I had it, I could confirm which fob version she needed before I left my van.

By the time I pulled up under those parking lot lights, I already had the right fob with me. All-keys-lost on this generation means immobilizer registration through the OBD port, and there is a timed security sequence built into the process. No button dance, no ignition trick, just the right tool and patience while the countdown runs.

I programmed the new smart key, cut the emergency insert blade so she had a physical backup, and erased the lost fob from the system so that if someone found it in a hospital hallway somewhere, it would not start her car.

She drove home from Hollywood by the Sea that night. The dealer would have had her waiting days for an appointment, probably a tow on top of that. She mentioned it as she got in. I told her it was just part of the job.
