2012 Acura RDX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Acura RDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In Downtown Oxnard, I got a call from a property manager who managed a small commercial building off A Street. She drove a 2012 Acura RDX, first-gen, turbo, flip key. She had already paid someone she found through a discount ad to cut and program a replacement.

The key started the car. That was it.

None of the three buttons did anything. Lock, dead. Unlock, dead. Panic, dead. She had been manually unlocking the door every morning with the key blade for two weeks because she figured it was just how it worked now.

It is not how it works.

When I pulled up and looked at the situation, it was obvious what happened. The previous guy had gone through the immobilizer process, confirmed the engine fired, and left. The remote registration to the body control module is a completely separate step, run through a different mode in the diagnostic sequence. He either did not know that or did not have the tools to finish it. Either way, she paid for a half-done job.

I confirmed the fob shell matched the factory FCC ID on her original damaged fob, checked the CR1616 was seated correctly, and ran the remote registration properly. Walked all three buttons. Walked the doors. Everything came alive the way it was supposed to.

She asked me what the dealer would have charged and how long it would have taken. I told her they would have had her drop the car, possibly wait on a VIN-ordered part, and pick it up a day or two later for a lot more than what she spent with me.

She said she wished she had called first. Most people do.
