If a fresh battery does not fix it, the issue is either a failed transmitter board inside the shell or the remote was never properly registered to the body control module to begin with, which happens more often than it should when someone programs the chip side and skips the remote registration step. That second scenario is a programming fix, not a hardware replacement.

I bought a replacement flip key shell online for my 2012 RDX. Can I just swap my old chip and blade into it?

If the replacement shell came with a new transponder chip, that chip has no registration to your vehicle yet. It needs to be programmed through the OBD port. If it came with a new remote board, that board needs to go through the separate remote registration sequence as well.

A lot of owners assume swapping everything into a new shell is a plug-and-play fix. It is not, and you can end up with a key that does nothing, or only starts the car with no remote function, depending on what got transferred and what did not.
