I was parked near the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard when an RDX owner walked up holding her flip key open like it had personally wronged her.
"It won't stay out," she said, flicking the blade. It flopped right back into the shell.
Known issue on these. Acura released Service Bulletin 10-008 covering 2007 through 2012 RDX retractable master keys that will not lock in the extended position. The hinge detent wears smooth over time, and the blade just free-swings. The factory fix calls for replacing the key housing, part number 35121-STX-305 for Driver 1, 35121-STX-306 for Driver 2, then moving the transmitter board and transponder chip into the new case.
Her key was the N5F0602A1A, part number 35111-STX-329, four buttons, CR1616 inside. Remote worked fine. Immobilizer chip read clean. Just a worn-out shell.
I cut a fresh HON66 blade, moved her board and ID46 chip into a new housing, and connected through OBD to run Immobilizer Setup. On these, every active key has to be present during programming or it gets erased from memory. That part matters.
We walked through lock, unlock, rear hatch, panic, and watched the green key indicator go out normally on start. No drama.
She just wanted a key that felt solid when she grabbed it. That is exactly what she left with, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her over the phone.
