2011 Acura RDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out in College Estates in Oxnard when she called. Night shift nurse, just got off work, wanting a spare key cut for her 2011 Acura RDX before anything had actually gone wrong. She said she had been meaning to do it for two years and kept putting it off. That shift had been long and something clicked.
First thing she asked was to see my license. She had already looked up my credentials before I showed up. I respect that. There are too many stories out there about people who learned the hard way.
Her RDX had the factory flip key, the three-button setup with the dealer part number on the back of the housing. The blade pivots out of the remote body and locks open, or it is supposed to. Hers was doing that thing where the blade does not want to stay locked in the extended position. A little wobble, a little resistance at the pivot. She mentioned it like it was just a quirk she had learned to live with. It was not. That kind of pivot wear is a known issue on these first-generation RDX flip keys and the fix is the key case and pivot pin, not anything on the car side. I noted it for her.
I decoded the blade from her working key, cut a new one on site, then connected through the OBD port to register the transponder into the immobilizer. No ignition-turn sequence exists for adding a key on this platform. It requires diagnostic access, full stop. Registration took a few minutes, then I cycled the ignition and watched the green key indicator prove out clean.
Tested all three buttons. Everything responded.
She tucked the spare into her bag and said she could finally stop thinking about being stranded after a twelve-hour shift. The dealer had quoted her a wait and a number that did not make sense for a spare key. She paid a fraction of that, standing in her own driveway.
