A boat mechanic called about his 2014 Acura RDX. Push button start, KR5434760 smart key, four buttons. He had already swapped the CR2032 himself. Dash kept flashing "No Key Detected" even with the fob sitting right in the cup holder next to him.

First thing I checked was RF response. The fob was still transmitting fine on 315 MHz. I opened the shell on the hood where he could see it. Board 007-AC1823 inside looked clean, battery seated right, contacts tight. This was not a dead remote.
I connected to the OBD-II port and pulled up the Keyless Access Control Unit. No hard immobilizer lockout stored, and the HITAG 3 transponder inside the fob was still handshaking with the system. The problem was a corrupted key registration in memory. I wiped the old entries, registered a fresh OEM-spec KR5434760 fob, and paired it clean.
After programming, I walked every function. Lock, unlock, hatch, panic. Three consecutive start cycles. Then I walked it down toward the dock to check passive entry range on both front door handles.
He was ready to have it flatbedded to the dealer. Didn't need to. Same day, right there in Channel Islands neighborhood, for a fraction of what they usually quote.
