Got called out to Downtown Oxnard for a 2013 Acura RDX with "Check Keyless Starting System" sitting on the dash. The owner said the fob had been getting flaky for weeks, then that morning it just quit. Doors wouldn't unlock from the handle, start button ignored the key completely. She'd been mashing the lock and unlock buttons so many times her thumb was red.
I flipped the fob over and checked the stampings. Most 2013 RDX keys I see are 72147-TX4-A01 or the A11 revision, but hers read 72147-TX6-A01 with FCC ID KR5434760. That TX6 part number shows up more often in ILX listings, so it caught my eye. I confirmed the board inside matched and the frequency was correct before touching anything else.
Popped the battery cover. The CR2032 was seated but tired. Replaced it, cleaned the contact clips, and scanned the vehicle. Pulled B12D codes from the keyless access module pointing to intermittent communication faults. Ran through the antenna circuit check at the dash receiver and door handles, then reprogrammed her fob through the OBD-II port and wiped out a second key code the system was holding for a fob she'd lost months ago.
Before leaving I showed her the backup start trick, holding the fob body flat against the start button to trigger the passive RFID read. She thought this was going to be a tow to the dealer and a full day without her car. Instead it was handled in her parking space in about 40 minutes.
