I got the call just after sunrise in Oxnard Beach Park. 2025 Acura RDX, push button start, dash saying “Key Not Detected.” He was parked along the beach, trying to head out before traffic built up.
He had one fob, FCC ID KR5BTP. Five button smart key with remote start and tailgate. He had already put in a CR2032 from a convenience store. Still nothing.
First thing I did was verify it was the correct platform. The 2025 RDX is still third generation, refreshed body style, all trims running Acura Smart Entry with encrypted immobilizer. No basic transponder option on this model. If the car does not see that fob, it will not crank.
I opened the fob on the hood of my van. Battery was new but loose under the contact tab. These KR5BTP units are Continental built and the contact tension matters. I seated it correctly, cleaned the pads, then hooked up to the OBD port to check for keyless access codes. No stored DTCs like B1664 or antenna faults. Good sign.
We rechecked proximity at the start button. Car woke up immediately.
He laughed, said he was already pricing dealer towing in his head. Instead, he was driving out of Oxnard Beach Park before the morning crowd rolled in.
