A rideshare driver on the highway shoulder in Simi Valley by Cochran Street corridor had his key snap inside the door lock of his 2008 Audi A8. The HU66 blade broke clean off. He had been using a worn copy for years and the tip finally gave out when the wafer pack inside the lock was sticky from age. Another locksmith he called told him the lock would need to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, big bill.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken flip key head since the chip was still intact. Then I used my HU66 Lishi to extract the broken blade fragment from the door lock. The HU66 Lishi fits the VAG keyway and can work around a stuck fragment to slide it out without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Once extracted, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position for exact cut depths. His flip key, FCC ID NBG009272T, was a 4-button unit that I rebuilt into a fresh shell with the salvaged Megamos chip.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. His total was 271. The other locksmith wanted 502 or more with a new lock. Destructive entry should always be the last resort.
