Got a call from a guy in the Loma Vista neighborhood in Ventura on a Saturday night. He had a 1997 Audi A8, push-to-start with no physical key slot, and zero working keys. His fob had gone missing at a hotel event and the conference room was locked until Monday. The concierge told him it was a dealer-only situation. He was stuck.
I drove out to the resort lot. The D2-platform A8 uses a Megamos ID48 transponder tied to the immobilizer module in the instrument cluster. All-keys-lost on these means pulling the security data from the immo before any new key can talk to the car. I used my ACDP module to read the EEPROM off the cluster, sent it for crypto calculation, got the return file, generated a working key with the correct ID48 chip, and cut the HU66 blade on site.
Then OBD key learning. Registered the new MYT8Z0837231 fob, tested all four buttons, lock, unlock, trunk, panic, confirmed the remote range from about 30 feet out, and watched the dash cycle clean with no immobilizer warning light.
He sat in the driver's seat and hit the start button like he was testing it. Then hit it again. Just making sure.
The whole thing took about an hour and a half in a valet lane. He would have waited two days minimum for the dealer to even open, and then paid a good chunk more on top of that.
