Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2011 Audi A8 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already in the South Bank area of Oxnard on a Sunday morning when I got the call. A flight attendant had been stuck at a nearby brunch spot for a couple of hours. She was on a layover, not local, and she had already been through it once before I got there.

Another locksmith had taken her money for a key that never worked right. The car would crank, catch, run for about two seconds, and then cut out. She described it perfectly without knowing what it meant. The previous tech told her the car had a module problem and left.

The car did not have a module problem.

What it had was a ghost of a failed programming session still sitting in the immobilizer. The old job had not completed its security handshake. The system had accepted the key data temporarily but never committed it. So the car saw the key as valid enough to crank but not valid enough to run. Classic incomplete registration behavior.

I connected through the OBD port, cleared out the failed key data from the previous attempt, pulled a fresh PIN from the immobilizer, and ran the full registration sequence with the timing it actually needs. When it finished, all four buttons on her fob worked clean, and the car started and stayed running. No two-second cutoff, no warning lights, just a car that worked.

She had already paid someone else for this job. Getting it right the second time, at less than she was quoted at the dealer, was the least I could do.
