She was near the outdoor shops in Ventura's Montalvo neighborhood, pushing her infant in a stroller, when her bag got snatched right off the stroller handle. Car keys, wallet, phone, gone. She borrowed a phone from a store employee and called her husband, then the police, then me.
Her 1999 Audi A8 was sitting in the garage at home. Zero keys. They also recommended a full immobilizer reset since the stolen key could still open and start the car.
All-keys-lost on a D2 A8 is a different process than adding a spare. Adding a key means the car already trusts an existing key and just registers a new one alongside it. AKL means I wipe the entire key memory in the immobilizer module at address 25 so the stolen key is dead to the car. I used my diagnostic tool to access the module, clear the old ID48 transponder data, and program two new flip keys from scratch. Both 4D0837231P fobs, fresh CR2032 batteries, emergency blades decoded and cut on site.
Both keys were working before the police finished taking her statement. She drove home that night with her baby. The stolen key cannot start that car.
