Got a call around 10pm from the Saticoy area in Ventura. Tax season. An accountant stuck at a dim office park with zero keys to his 1998 A8. His only flip key had vanished somewhere between his desk and the parking lot.
He was about to call a ride home and deal with it tomorrow. I asked him to find his VIN. He did not know what that was. I walked him through it on the phone: bottom left of the windshield, driver's side, read it with your phone flashlight. He found it. Then I had him pull up his insurance app for registration, because I verify ownership before cutting anything.
With that VIN, I already knew his key type, his immobilizer generation (Immo2, Megamos ID48), and exactly what blank and chip to bring. I prepped everything before I left.
On site, I used my VVDI Prog to read the cluster EEPROM for the security data, generated a working transponder value, cut the HU66 blade, and built out a fresh 4D0 837 231 P flip key with all four buttons. OBD registration through the diagnostic port, then I tested remote lock, unlock, trunk, and panic under the parking lot lights.
He drove home that night. The dealer would have needed a tow and a weekday appointment. His was done in the dark, on a Tuesday, for a fraction of what they would have quoted.
