2000 Audi A8 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center called me about his 2000 Audi A8. Said the dealer told him two weeks for a replacement key and he would need to tow it in. He was a tax accountant, picking up dry cleaning on his lunch break, and his only key had just snapped at the blade fold. The flip mechanism on the 4D0837231P is a known weak spot. The zinc alloy pivot wears out over time and one day the blade just breaks free of the housing.
He had the blade half in his hand and the fob half in his pocket. Thought the car was dead until the dealer could see it.
I brought my Smart Pro and a blank flip key shell with a fresh HU66 blade. Transferred his original ID48 chip from the broken housing into the new shell. That chip was already registered to his IMMO3 module on the instrument cluster, so no programming needed for the immobilizer side. Just a careful chip swap, a new cut blade matched to his door, and then syncing the remote portion back to the comfort control module (address 46 in VAG diagnostics).
Cut, assembled, tested all four remote buttons, started the engine twice. About 25 minutes hood to hood.
He kept turning the new key over in his hand like he was waiting for it to break again. It won't. The pivot pin on the new shell is actually better than the original Audi part.
