A rideshare driver on the shoulder off the 118 near the Cochran Street corridor in Simi Valley called me because his key snapped inside the door lock of his 2008 Audi A8. The HU66 blade broke clean off at the shoulder. He had been using a worn copy for years, and the wafer pack inside the cylinder was sticky from age. The combination finally lost.
Another locksmith told him the lock would need to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, big job.
I started by pulling the broken flip key head apart. The Megamos 48 chip was still intact, which meant I could salvage it and skip ordering a new transponder entirely. Then I used my HU66 Lishi to extract the broken blade fragment from the door lock. The Lishi fits the VAG keyway and can work around a stuck fragment to slide it out without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Once extracted, I decoded each wafer position for exact cut depths.
Rebuilt the key into a fresh 8P0 837 220 E shell, transferred the Megamos chip, cut a new blade to the decoded bitting, and tested all four buttons plus KESSY proximity start.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. The car looked exactly the same when I left. He was back on the road in under an hour, for a fraction of what the other guy quoted with destructive entry. That should always be the last resort.
