2015 Audi A8 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy near Victoria Estates in Oxnard on a Saturday. He had a 2015 A8 and a fob that had stopped unlocking the car from more than a few feet away. It was not dead, just unreliable. He figured it was the battery and had already tried a fresh CR2032. Same result.
When I pulled up, he was doing the thing A8 owners do, standing closer and closer to the car and pressing the button like distance was the variable he could control. I watched him from the street for a second before I got out.
I opened the fob on the hood. The new battery he had put in was seated, but the contact on the positive side had a slight outward bow, barely visible. It was making contact just well enough to power the fob but not consistently enough for the full RF output. I straightened the clip, reseated the CR2032, and snapped it shut.
Then I did what he was not expecting. I walked the property line, maybe 40 feet out, and ran every button. Lock. Unlock. The other two. Then I came back, got in the car, and started it three times in a row. He was watching from the front step with his arms crossed, not saying much.
The range was back. Every button confirmed. Three clean starts, no hesitation.
He told me he had been quoted a full key replacement at the dealer. A new fob, a programming appointment, the whole thing. All it took was a straightened battery clip and knowing what to look for. He saved a good chunk and had it handled before lunch.
