I got a call from a guy near Victoria Estates in Oxnard on a Saturday. He had a 2015 A8 and a fob that had stopped unlocking the car from more than a few feet away. It was not dead, just unreliable. He figured it was the battery and had already tried a fresh CR2032. Same result.

He told me he had been quoted a full key replacement at the dealer. A new fob, a programming appointment, the whole thing. All it took was a straightened battery clip and knowing what to look for. He saved a good chunk and had it handled before lunch.
