I pulled out the VVDI2, read the transponder code off his working key, and wrote an identical clone onto a fresh 48 chip blank. No need to connect to the comfort control module or run a full security reset. Just a clean read, a clean write, then cut the new HU66 blade to match.
Tested both keys: ignition on, engine start, remote lock, remote unlock, trunk. Everything cycled clean.
He drove off with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer quoted. And now if he ever loses one, the next replacement is a simple add-a-key instead of all-keys-lost, which saves him even more down the road.
