A spin instructor at the gym lot near the Woolworths Building downtown in Oxnard flagged me down early one morning. Her only key to her 2016 Audi A8 had cracked clean through at the pivot hinge, and when she tried to fold the blade back, it snapped. One half of the flip shell in her hand, the blade jammed in the driver door lock. Zero working keys.
I pulled the broken blade out with my Lishi pick, then cracked open the damaged shell on my tailgate. Good news: the circuit board, part number 8T0959754G, was intact. The Megamos AES chip was reading fine. That meant I could skip the full all-keys-lost reset, which on a D4 A8 with BCM2 encryption is one of the longer Audi procedures because of the number of protected modules involved.
I used my VVDI Key Tool to read the existing chip data, transferred it onto a fresh Megamos transponder, and cut a new blade to match. Rebuilt the whole thing into a new flip shell. Then I programmed a second key so she would not be in this spot again.
She stood there watching, arms crossed, like she was waiting for it to not work. When she hit the unlock button and the mirrors folded out, she just nodded once and said, "OK then."
