Most of the Audi owners I hear from weren't careless. They bought the car used, got one key, figured they'd sort out a spare eventually, and then eventually showed up.
A spin instructor out at the Wagon Wheel area of Oxnard had exactly that story. Early morning, parking lot, she grabbed her only fob to lock up after class and the pivot hinge on the flip gave out. Forty minutes, start to finish. The dealer had quoted her for a full replacement key with programming as a separate line item. She paid a fraction of that, in the parking lot, before her next class started.
