A flight attendant on a layover at the brunch cafe in Oxnard near River Ridge Golf Course on a Sunday told me she had already been burned. Another locksmith charged her full price for a 2011 Audi A8 key that never programmed correctly. The car would crank but the immobilizer cut fuel after two seconds. Classic failed IMMO learn. The car did not have a module problem. The locksmith had not completed the full immobilizer registration. Audi's system requires a specific PIN-based security handshake with timed steps. If you rush it, skip a step, or use the wrong procedure for the IMMO generation, the car accepts the key data temporarily but does not write it to permanent memory.
I connected through OBD with my IM608. The IM608 cleared the failed key data from the previous attempt, read a fresh PIN from the immobilizer, ran a clean registration with the correct security timer, and confirmed the key was permanently written. Her fob, FCC ID IYZFBSB802, had all 4 buttons working plus a clean start with no two-second fuel cutoff.
She paid me 95. The dealer charges 200. She had already paid the first locksmith too. What I could do was make sure the job was actually done right this time.
