A customer in Oxnard had just bought a used 2001 BMW X5 from a private seller. Great car, one key. The seller told him to sort a spare on his own. He figured maybe $100 at a locksmith. BMW keys don't work like that.

I met him and used my VVDI2 to read the EWS immobilizer data and prepare a new key. His X5 used an older diamond-style fob, FCC ID LX8FZV, with a 3-button remote. I cut the HU58 blade on my machine and synced the transponder and remote in one visit. I explained the difference between add-a-key and all-keys-lost so he'd know why having a spare saves him serious money down the road.
He left with two working keys for less than the dealer wanted for one. On a BMW, the price difference between add-a-key and AKL is hundreds of dollars because all-keys-lost requires pulling modules and bench work. A spare now is the cheapest protection against an expensive emergency later.
