2018 BMW X5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Grant Park in Ventura, a guy was standing on the shoulder of a coastal stretch with his 2018 X5 dead to the world. His key blade had snapped clean in the ignition. Half stuck in the cylinder, half in his palm.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the ignition cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced. On a BMW with the HU92 lock, that turns into a big job before you even talk about a new key. He called me looking for a second opinion.
I got there and used a Lishi HU92 to extract the broken fragment from the cylinder without scratching the internal wafer surfaces. Once the blade was out clean, I decoded the lock position readings right off the wafers, cut a fresh HU92 blade on site, and then got into the BDC module work for the transponder programming. His fob was the NBGIDGNG1, four-button smart key with Comfort Access.
New blade turned the ignition first try. No drilling. No cylinder swap. His original BMW lock works with the new key exactly as it did the day he bought the car.
The other locksmith's plan would have cost him way more and left him with a replaced cylinder. He drove off with the original one still in the dash.
