2003 BMW X5 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy on Oxnard Boulevard, standing next to his 2003 X5. Only key he had, the remote head key just stopped turning the ignition. Blade went in fine, but he couldn't rotate past the first detent. He'd been wiggling it for ten minutes.
When I got there, I checked the HU92 blade first. Worn on one side, almost flat at the tip. Thirteen years of daily use will do that to a sidewinder cut. But the bigger issue was the EWS3 module had thrown a fault. His ID44 transponder was reading intermittently, which meant the immobilizer was half-locking him out even when the blade cooperated.
I cut a fresh HU92 blade in the van, matched to his lock. Then I pulled the EWS3 data through OBD, read the ISN off the DME, and programmed a new PCF7935 chip into a replacement remote head key, FCC ID LX8FZV, three buttons, CR2032 battery. Tested the remote lock, unlock, and trunk. Cycled the ignition five times clean.
He stood there watching the whole time, arms crossed, barely said a word until the engine turned over smooth. Then he just nodded and said he'd been bracing for a flat-bed ride to the dealer. That tow alone would have eaten half a day, and the dealer would still need to order a key by VIN and schedule a second appointment for programming.
I was back on the road in about 40 minutes.
