Over in Olivas Adobe in Ventura, a guy with a 2013 X5 xDrive35i flagged me down at the watch repair shop off Victoria. Another locksmith had cut and programmed a key for him three days earlier. Worked fine for those three days. Then the X5 would crank, fire for half a second, and cut fuel dead.

I pulled CAS3+ data with my VVDI2, confirmed the ISN mismatch right away. The stored value in the CAS didn't match what the DME expected. Reprogrammed the key with a correct ISN sync, verified the handshake, and ran a full start cycle. Engine caught clean, no fuel cutoff, no hiccup.
