Got a call from a woman in the Midtown neighborhood here in Ventura. Her 2007 X5 had one working key left, the spare vanished months ago, and now the remaining key's blade was chewed up enough that it fought the ignition every time.

The E70 X5 uses the CAS3 module with an ID7944 transponder chip, so I connected my programmer to the OBD-II port, read the CAS3 security data, and wrote the new key into one of the open slots. Her old damaged key stayed active too, just in case, though I told her to retire it before it jams and snaps off in the cylinder.

Then the part I don't skip. Three cold starts. Lock, unlock, trunk release from 30 feet. Walk to the other side of the lot and test range. On her build with Comfort Access, I checked both front door handle sensors, pull-to-unlock and touch-to-lock. Everything responded clean.

She watched the whole thing from her front step. When I handed her the new key she turned it over in her hand a couple times, like she was checking if it was real. Told me the dealer had quoted her a two-week wait. This took 35 minutes.
