2004 BMW X5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2004 BMW X5 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy parked near the river bottom in El Rio. He worked early mornings, had the key in his jacket pocket all day, and at some point the fob just stopped responding. The lock and unlock buttons were doing nothing. Car still started fine with the blade, but he had no remote function and was starting to wonder if something deeper was wrong.

He had already looked up dealer pricing. Parts counter told him the fob assembly would need to be ordered, then the car would need to come in for programming. The estimate was vague on time, not vague on cost. He decided to look for another way.

I met him on his lunch break. Pulled the remote head key apart right there on the hood. The CR2032 inside was dated and reading low. Swapped it, reseated everything clean, and the range came back immediately. Lock, unlock, all three buttons working the way they should.

Then I ran through the full check anyway: walked both doors, tested from across the parking lot, made sure the key was registering properly with the vehicle. Everything solid.

He didn't need a new key at all. He needed a battery and someone who would actually look at it before assuming the worst. Took about twenty minutes. That's the job sometimes.
