When a 2017 BMW X5 key is done wrong, BMW's immobilizer makes it obvious fast. The engine cranks but cuts fuel instantly. The fob slots but the CAS throws an error. Or the key programs initially but the DME rejects the ISN sync and the car dies after one drive cycle. BMW security is layered, and cutting corners on any layer means the whole job fails.
