1997 Honda CR-V Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Push-to-start all-keys-lost is the job that scares most Honda owners the most. No physical key slot, no way to "just turn the ignition." The car needs to wirelessly detect a fob that's programmed to its specific immobilizer before it will even wake up. If that fob is gone, the car feels bricked, but it isn't.

A photographer at a canyon overlook lot outside Ventura had a 1997 Honda CR-V with push-to-start and zero keys. He was 30 minutes outside town on a shoot with no cell service until he hiked back to the main road to flag someone down. He'd been told by multiple people that smart key all-keys-lost was dealer-only.

I drove out to the overlook. Push-to-start AKL is more involved than a standard transponder job because the car's IMMO module needs to be accessed and the old key data cleared before new fobs can learn. On some Honda models, that means doing a full IMMO reset that touches the steering lock and PCM. I used my ACDP to pull the immobilizer data as a safety backup, then ran the AKL sequence through OBD. His smart key, FCC ID , was a -button proximity fob.

His car started at a canyon overlook with no cell service and no dealer within 30 miles. The total was around 95. The dealer route would have been 200 plus a long-distance tow. Smart key AKL isn't dealer-only, it's tool-dependent. He was pretty amazed it could all happen right there.
