Worst case on a 2016 Kia Sorento is an all-keys-lost smart key where the car battery died during programming and the immobilizer throws errors. Power interruption mid-security-handshake can lock the IMMO module into a fault state that makes some locksmiths pack up and leave.

I brought my ACDP bench tool as backup. I recovered through OBD by stabilizing the battery with my jump pack, then clearing fault codes with my IM608 before starting a clean programming sequence. On Kia, the immobilizer logic sits in the BCM or smart key module depending on the platform. His smart key, FCC ID TQ8-FOB-4F08, was a 4-button proximity fob. The fault cleared and the new fob learned on the first attempt.
Total was about an hour and a half. His bill was 95. The alternative was a flatbed to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and 200 or more.
