2018 Kia Sorento
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Casa Conejo sits tucked behind the 101, the kind of neighborhood where the apartment complexes have covered garage parking and no cell signal below the second floor. That is where I met a travel nurse on a Monday afternoon.

She had one fob, it had stopped being detected by the driver door handle, and she called the Kia dealer that morning. They told her Friday at the earliest, possibly the following week if they needed to order the fob. She was three weeks into a 13-week contract and the hospital was not walking distance. She called me after she got off the phone with them.

I was in the garage by early afternoon. Parked next to her Sorento, connected to the OBD port, and ran the smart key registration sequence. Her existing fob went back into the system and a second one went in alongside it as a spare. Cut the emergency insert blade on site. Then I did what I always do before I leave: walked every door handle, tested touch lock and unlock on both front handles, ran all four buttons, and did a start cycle to confirm the immobilizer was seeing the new registration.

The whole thing was done before she had to leave for her evening shift. She texted me later that night just to say it worked fine in the garage. I appreciated that.

The dealer would have been Friday, maybe later, and the tow alone would have been its own expense. She paid a fraction of that, same day, parked where her car already was.
