2016 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
An alignment shop over in the Lynn Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks called me about a 2016 Kia Sorento that another locksmith had already walked away from. The owner needed all-keys-lost smart key replacement, simple enough on paper. But the first locksmith's battery wasn't holding voltage, and mid-programming the car's 12V dropped out. That killed the security handshake. The immobilizer module threw a fault state and locked up. The other guy packed his tools and left.
When I got there the Sorento was sitting in the shop bay with the hood up and the battery on a slow charge. Owner was quiet, arms crossed, the look of a guy doing math on a flatbed to the dealer.
I clamped my jump pack directly to the battery posts for stable voltage, then connected my IM608 through OBD. On the 2016 UM-platform Sorento, immobilizer logic lives in the BCM, part number referenced on the board as 95480-series depending on trim. I cleared the stored fault codes from the interrupted session, confirmed the system was back to a clean state, and started a fresh all-keys-lost procedure. The new TQ8-FOB-4F08 fob with its ID47 chip registered on the first try.
Walked every function: proximity detection at all four doors, push-button start, lock, unlock, and the hatch release. About an hour and a half total, most of that spent on cleanup from the first guy's mess. The owner's arms uncrossed somewhere around the time the engine turned over.
He saved a good chunk over what a tow and dealer visit would have run him.
