2023 Kia Sorento
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Kia Sorento Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already out near Ventura Harbor on another job when the alignment shop called. A Sorento owner had come in for a routine visit and ended up stranded.

Another locksmith had tried to program a replacement smart key for him, the vehicle battery dropped voltage mid-sequence, and the security module went into a fault state. That locksmith packed his bag and left. The alignment shop didn't know who else to call.

By the time I got there, the car wouldn't acknowledge any key. The owner was calm about it, but you could tell he'd been sitting there a while watching people's cars get aligned while his just sat.

I put a jump pack on the battery first -- not to start it, just to hold stable voltage. That step alone prevents about half the problems that happen on jobs like this. Then I cleared the fault codes that the interrupted programming sequence had left behind before touching the security system again. Clean slate. From there, the programming sequence ran the way it was supposed to.

The new fob came up on the first attempt. I walked every function before I called it done -- locks, the other buttons, confirmed the car started. He drove out under his own power about ninety minutes after I arrived.

He mentioned the dealer quote later, almost as an aside. Multi-day wait, flatbed, the whole production. He seemed less bothered by what it would have cost and more bothered by the idea of leaving his car somewhere for days. The mobile call meant he got it handled in the same parking lot where it broke down.
